Our resource rooms are classrooms located in a Lutheran elementary school serving students in grades one through eight. We currently offer resource rooms at:
- Hales Corners Lutheran in Hales Corners
- Our Redeemer in Wauwatosa
- Pilgrim Lutheran in Wauwatosa
- St. John's Lutheran in Glendale.
These rooms provide special education for children who are mainstreamed for a portion of the day and receive special instruction for the other portion of their school day.
Instructional Program
Class size is limited to 12 to 14 students and the classrooms are usually non-categorical. Students enrolled in a resource room have been identified as having special learning needs based on test results, current performance, teacher and parent observation.
A resource room is staffed by a special education teacher, but may also be served by a regular education teacher who has experience and background in working with a wide variety of learning styles and is familiar with varied teaching techniques.
Students enrolled in a resource room receive individualized and small group instruction for specific remediation of their learning problems. They usually spend approximately 40 percent of their day in the resource room and the remainder in their age appropriate classroom.
Depending upon the availability of the resource room teacher, regular classroom students may be referred to a resource room by their full-time teacher to receive short-term remediation of a particular learning difficulty.
